Default Hippo Pet...

Hmmmmmm, aparently they were too "complex" for nightfall, so they were removed. The players that wanted to tame one, were usually fighting that they should be put back in the game.

Now, with the addition of GW:EN there are many "Aggressive Hippopotamus" in the Asuran areas. Which confuses me.

1) Why would they put them in the game if there not gonna be charmable? Almost a taunt at the Hippo fans.

2) Whats up with the prefix "Aggressive" it makes me think that it is indeed a pet, but theres a glitch that wont allow you to capture it yet

and 3) ...MAKE IT A PET AGAIN!

As I recall, there was a technical issue that they couldn't/wouldn't fix, but presumably they could limit the required animations to get around it for a critter version, so it got recycled into GW:EN.

But yeah, bit of a bad taste decision, given how many people really wanted the pet version.

Yea, not even documented on wiki yet that Hippo's are enemies you find in Asuran lands.

"Too complex" was the biggest bullshit excuse I've heard from Areanet.

It's because of how much Hippopatomi poop in a day.
Do you really want that much poop all over Tyria?
Seriously, they poop a lot.

I think it had to do with the model of the pet not being used for other pets and thus increasing the load times and decreasing the versatility of the model or something.

Rainbow Phoenix uses the same skeleton as the imperial phoenix (Raven and Mountain Eagle, too).

I thought it was connected to not offending some particular group by having a hippo monster around...

Some tribe in the amazon most likely considers hippos as sacred, or some other lame reason like the one that prevents them from having a panda as a pet.

Ill screenshot it when I get on, yes they are hippo's. And there obviously isn't anything thats "illegal" about having them in the game because they are an enemy, your SUPPOSED to kill them.

I reckon Gaile saying something about animal rights and endangered species when she told why they took the hippopotamus off.

Which is silly. Think how endangered the Phoenix are in real life. There are NONE!

I think it was more to due with large load times. it was causing the game to crash in testing. Maybe not but i thinks thats what i read. But are the monster versions using skills? Cause I want a pet devourer like joe but they all (cept some in pre i think) have normal skills the give them a proff. If the hippos have skills they arent charmable.

But either way I guess if you want a giant poop machine for a pet
